Bigger is Better! Tom of Finland - Oversized for Maximum Pleasure!
In 2009, the ultimate compilation of Tom of Finland's work was released: ''Tom of Finland XXL'', a beautiful big collector's edition with over 1,000 images, covering six decades of the artist's career, and measuring 29cm by 40.5cm, weighing over 4 kgs, and costing $400! Now out of print, the publisher Taschen has just re-released this book in a slightly smaller but still impressive size (24.5cm by 34.2cm), and at the much more affordable price of AUD $135.
This ulitmate collectors' edition features material gathered from collections across the United States and Europe with the help of the Tom of Finland Foundation, and includes many drawings, paintings, and sketches never previously reproduced. Other images have only been seen out of context and are now presented in the sequential order Tom intended for full artistic appreciation and erotic impact.
This elegant oversized volume shows the full range of Tom's talent, from sensitive portraits, to frank sexual pleasure, to tender expressions of love, and haunting tributes to young men struck down by AIDS. It is accompanied by eight commissioned essays on Tom's social and personal impact by the likes of Camille Paglia, John Waters, Armistead Maupin and Todd Oldham, and also features a scholarly analysis of individual drawings by art historian Edward Lucie-Smith. It also features text in English, French and German.
