Set within the glittering world of the silent movie industry in early 20th Century Paris, Beatrice Hitchman has created a fascinating tale of romance, duplicity and mystery, which holds a tantalising twist in its tail!
The novel begins in 1967, when news researcher Juliette Blanc pursues the story of a recently unearthed copy of a silent movie called ''Petite Mort'' (which translates as 'The Little Death' and is the French term for the orgasm). Filmed in 1913, it was believed destroyed in a fire, before it could be released. But the intriguing aspect is that when it is compared to a master copy, it is found inexplicably to have a missing scene.
Juliette's investigations lead her to Adele Roux, who as a young girl working in the Pathe Films costume department was plucked from obscurity by Andre, the famous and dashing creator of spectacular cinematic effects. Andre is also the husband of the beautiful, volatile actress Luce, the most adored icon of the Parisian film scene, and a lesbian.
Adele is taken to live with Andre and Luce, as her personal assistant, and finds herself becoming not only Andre's mistress but Luce's paramour as well. But what begins as an exciting and erotic menage a trois becomes dangerous as passions rise and desires begin to conflict.
