The analogue photographs by Richard Kranzin are a display of technical and compositional perfection. Their beauty lies in their simplicity. Here the only thing that matters is the content, beautiful young men being themselves. This paring down to the essentials is anything but cold; it gives space to the men in front of the camera to partake, alongside the photographer and the observer, in the covenant of eternal beauty.
Between 2018 and 2020, wunderkind artist Richard Kranzin photographed over 60 models in the privacy of his own apartment, and he has selected 104 images for this publication. “My art has to do with the fragility of the masculine. The young men in this digital generation are represented as purely as possible. Analogue black and white photography gives them a new materiality and forms a contrast to the over-stuffed digital picture-world we live in. My models are cut off from their commercialized self-representations on social media, from their digital identities. I aim to break open the façade. My pictures invite you to dream of a masculinity without sin, honest and authentically sensuous.” (Richard Kranzin)
